세계적인 팝아트 작가이자, 영국 현대미술을 대표하는 줄리안 오피는 런던 태생으로 앤디 워홀 이후의 최고의 팝 아티스트라 수식되고 있다.
그는 도시의 다양한 인물들의 모습을 굵은 윤곽선, 밝은 색채로 간결하게 표현한다. 오피는 대형 광고판, 일본 목판화, 만화, 고전 초상화, 조각 등에서 색채와 형상의 영감을 받고 이를 특유의 축약된 형식과 현대인들에게 쉽게 소통되는 이미지로 재해석한다. ‘당신이 보는 모든 것은 빛의 속임수다.’라고 말할만큼 본인 만의 컬러를 통해 삶 속의 색채감을 일깨운다.
